1st Quarter Update - April 28, 2010
A note to fund holders from your Jewish Foundation of Memphis staff:

Hard to believe we are nearing the end of the school year and the weather has turned warm and sunny.  We hope this quarterly update finds you and your family doing well and feeling "charitable."

We are pleased to give you an overview of recent Jewish Foundation activity and share some of our plans for the rest of the year.

On April 21 the foundation held its annual meeting and elected its 6th president, Nick Ringel.  We honored the accomplishments of Ronna Newburger's presidency and paid tribute to our most generous families through a new program, "Generations of Giving." This  initiative recognizes families who have a formal relationship with the Jewish Foundation spanning 3 or more generations.  Click here to see our list of Generations of Giving families.

If you would like your family to be included in "Generations of Giving " and are not sure how you can qualify, please contact us via email or phone 901-374-0400.

Other highlights of the annual meeting included the election of new board members and a special tribute to the members of the Jewish Foundation's Professional Advisory Group

Investment performance during the 1st quarter of 2010 was strong and the Foundation investment committee continues to meet regularly with CSG to monitor performance.  You can access a summary of performance here.

As you consider your grant recommendations we urge you to take a look at the attached agency wish list.  These "wish list" items were provided to us by our partner agencies.  We hope you will consider funding one or more of these projects.

Reminder - New Investment Strategies Added to Foundation's Platform

Another reminder that we have added 3 additional investment options  to our platform.  In addition to the original options, you may now choose an index strategy, a balanced strategy (50%/50%) and a moderate strategy (30%/70%). You may access more information on our investment program by clicking here.

Now may be a great time to gift appreciated securities

Given the strong investment performance over the past 12-months, now may be a good time to consider gifting appreciated securities to your donor advised funds.  Speak with your financial advisor about the benefits of utilizing a stock that you have owned for more than 1 year.

Upcoming Plans

In the coming year we will be doing a complete evaluation of our donor advised fund program and look for ways that we can better serve you, our fund holders.  If there is anything in particular that you would like us to offer in the way of philanthropic services please let us know!

We will also be expanding our Professional Advisory Group (PAG) and looking for more ways to engage local estate attorneys, cpa's and others in the important work of building the permanent endowment fund assets of our Jewish community.  We hope that you will mention the PAG to your personal advisor(s) and ask them if they are involved.  A membership application can be accessed on the professional advisor page of our website.

Thank you for making the Jewish Foundation of Memphis your partner in charitable giving.  We look forward to continuing to serve you in the coming year.
